SS Extender
System Tray Screen Saver Utility
Version 1.2 R1
for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 & 95
Copyright 1996 Brad W. Young
**************************************************************************
Summary
Protect applications that are not multitask friendly from your screen saver such
as downloads, faxes, backup software, hard disk utilities, and other resource
intense programs. Some screen savers are very resource intense and thus slowing
down the entire system. So if you are like me you need a way to control your
screen saver. SS Extender is the way.
Do you have high security access to your network, mid-range computer, mainframe?
Tired of having to log out when you leave your computer unattended to prevent
people from using your user access on your computer while you are away.
Yes a password protected screen saver will do the job but, how do you control
when it activates. With SS Extender, that is how! With SS Extender you control
when the screen activates and when it doesn't. Disabling the screen saver is a
simple click of an icon in the sytem tray. Starting the screen saver is a simple
double click of the same icon. A right click brings up a menu with options to
run the current screen saver settings, run the display settings, and all of the
shutdown options for windows. SS Extender V1.2 R0 now supports timed shut downs.
Set the length of time and the shutdown option, and SS Extender will perform the
selected shut down option in the specified time. This utility is a must for any
serious windows user.
SS Extender is fully Windows 95 compatible including an uninstall option. SS Extender
has been test under Window NT 4.0 beta and seems to run fine.
SS Extender is a shareware program you have a 30 day evaluation and then a 10 day
grace period to use SS Extender. It is fully functional during this 30 day eval
with no nag screens. See license.txt for licensing information. See order.txt for
ordering information.

Installation
************
****important*****
If installing a new version/revision, make sure you uninstall the old
version/revision. See uninstalling below.
1. First the installation program and SS Extender require the VB 4.0 32
bit runtime library, VB40032.DLL. This dll can be downloaded from many
on-line services, AOL, and from the internet at
http://users.aol.com/bradwyoung/files.htm
2. After you have the VB runtime library in you windows\system directory,
unzip the ssextend.zip to a temporary directory and run setup.exe. The setup
program will install SS Extender on your machine and create a shortcut in the
StartUp folder.
3. After the installation is complete go to the start menu Programs-StartUp-SS Extender
to run.
4. You may delete the files in the temporary directory.
************
Uninstalling
************
1. Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel
2. Select SS Extender in the list box and click the Add/Remove button
************
Tip
************
If files that SS Extender did not install are in the SS Extender directory
the uninstall program will be unable to remove the SS Extender directory.
So, you can go the the explorer and delete the directory manually.

Revisions History
*****************
1.2 R1
Fixed bug of a runtime error being generated when the SS Extender system
tray icon is double right clicked. Fixed SS Extender registry settings
so no matter who logs in the SS Extender can find the correct registry
settings.
1.2 R0
Timed shut downs now supported. Fixed problem when <none> is selected for
screen saver and then you try to run screen saver from SS Extender and you
get the runtime error. Close Menu option added to pop-up menu.
1.1 R1
Fixed a bug that comes up at the first of the month saying the grace period had
expired.
1.1 R0
Changed program logic to not use a custom OCX and its dll. This decreased
the memory requirements, increased the load time, and decreased download time
because those files are no longer required.
1.0 R2
Fix problem with the exiting and rebooting from Windows NT. If running Win 95 this
Revision does nothing new.
1.0 R1
Fix problem if screen saver is disabled and you start the screen saver. When the
screen saver is cleared the screen saver is no longer disabled, but SS Extender
shows that it is still disabled.
Fix problem when starting display settings, screen saver page was not the active
page.
